On January 4-6, 2017, EDC supported the National Science Foundation (NSF) in hosting the first NSF INCLUDES Principal Investigator Meeting in Arlington, VA. Through the INCLUDES initiative, the NSF is working to Identify proven, innovative ideas that create access to science and engineering for groups traditionally underrepresented in those fields, and then scale up those ideas to help more people. The NSF INCLUDES Technical Assistance Team is led by EDC Principal Research Scientist Leslie Goodyear (at left) in collaboration with partners Westat and Equal Measure. The TA team worked closely with NSF to develop the agenda, recruit panel speakers and workshop facilitators, and ensure the meeting was lively and productive for attendees.
At the PI meeting, teams from 40 INCLUDES Design and Development Launch Pilot awardees were joined by their evaluators, INCLUDES Conference Awardees, NSF program officers and program leadership, and the Director of NSF, Dr. France Cordova. These 40 Launch Pilots are working to broaden participation in STEM through regional and national collaborations that include K-12, informal education institutions, higher education, business and nonprofits. Near the end of their two-year grants, the Launch Pilot awardees will be eligible to apply to become INCLUDES Alliances, scaling successful collaborations and interventions to create collective impact.
