Implementing the Common Core State Standards
Implementing and aligning the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) brings both challenges and opportunities. Our participation in the development of the CCSS informs our collaboration with teachers and administrators to improve mathematics education and align instruction with national standards. We offer support that advances schools’ and districts’ CCSS alignment efforts and fosters understanding of the Standards for Mathematical Practice—essential ways of thinking and acting mathematically. Interested? Contact Al Cuoco, June Mark, or Eden Badertscher.
Selected Projects:
Developing Mathematical Practices for Geometry, Algebra II, and Beyond helps Grade 10–12 teachers implement the CCSS Standards for Mathematical Practice, as well as state math curriculum frameworks. Contact Al Cuoco.
Implementing the Mathematical Practice Standards website helps teachers learn more about the CCSS for Mathematical Practice and connect these standards to the content standards; "Illustrations" show the Mathematical Practices in action. Contact Paul Goldenberg, June Mark, or Deborah Spencer.
Mathematical Practices Institute unpacks the CCSS, builds understanding of the differences between current standards and the CCSS, and helps participants develop strategies to effectively transition to the CCSS. Contact Eden Badertscher.
Mathematics Leadership Program builds capacity to strengthen mathematics teaching and learning and align with the CCSS by engaging participants in inquiry into mathematics and student thinking. Contact Deborah Schifter.
