As managing partner of the U.S. Department of Education-funded Center on Enhancing Early Learning Outcomes (CEELO), EDC played a lead role in CEELO’s 2013 national RoundTAble event in San Francisco. Co-planned with partners the National Institute for Early Education Research and the Council of Chief State School Officers, the RoundTAble focused on early childhood comprehensive assessment systems and teacher evaluation in the early years of the learning continuum. U.S. Assistant Secretary of Elementary and Secondary Education Deborah Delisle presented at the RoundTAble, and U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan sent participants a virtual greeting, as well as words of thanks and encouragement.
Over 115 participants from 40 states and territories came together to explore current research and best practice related to assessment. During the RoundTAble, participants learned from experts on early childhood assessment and engaged in discussions with peers on this critical issue impacting policy for young children. EDC’s CEELO Project Director Jana Martella says, “The opportunity for state early learning leaders to gather together and learn from each other is a central component of our work, and the RoundTAble was a perfect example of that.” Visit CEELO’s website to access resources from the RoundTAble, including detailed proceedings, and visit CEELO's YouTube channel to view videos from the event.
