The National Council on Interpreting in Health Care (NCIHC) has named Maria-Paz Avery (at left) a 2015 Language Access Champion. The NCIHC Language Access Champion award honors work that contributes to improving the lives of all people through the promotion of linguistic competence in health care. NCIHC Vice President Marina Hadjiannou Waters praised Avery and two other awardees, noting: “It is gratifying to give these individuals the recognition and honor they deserve for their endless efforts to promote language access in health care. Each one is a true hero and embodies the concept of champion.” NCIHC conferred the award during a ceremony at its annual membership meeting in Minneapolis, Minn., Language Access for the Whole Person - Mind, Body, and Spirit.
