EDC Awarded NSF Computing Education for the 21st Century Grant

Joyce Malyn-Smith

EDC has received a grant award from the NSF’s CE-21 (Computing Education for the 21st Century) program to broaden computer science education (CE) across Massachusetts. Over the next three years, a team led by Joyce Malyn-Smith (shown at left) with partners—the Advanced Math and Science Academy charter school, UMass Boston’s Broadening Advanced Technological Education Connections program, and the Massachusetts Technology Leadership Council—will form the Massachusetts Exploring Computer Science Partnership (MECSP). With a special focus on reaching students from underrepresented populations to address equity issues within the Computer Science (CS) field, MECSP will develop a multi-sector collaboration to expand the Exploring Computer Science (ECS) course statewide. Key steps will include developing regional CE professional development hubs and establishing a cadre of teacher leaders.
