Barbara Miller, former EDC Vice President and Associate Director of EDC’s Learning & Teaching Division, served as a member of a National Research Council committee that has produced a newly released report focused on science educators, Science Teachers’ Learning: Enhancing Opportunities, Creating Supportive Contexts. For three years, Miller worked with the Committee and study director Heidi Schweingruber of the Board on Science Education to identify the learning needs of science teachers throughout their careers. The report presents their findings and recommendations from this work—with an emphasis on highlighting research needed to more clearly define learning continuums for science teachers.
“It was an honor to serve on the Committee and to collaborate with this outstanding group of national experts in science education and professional development,” Barbara Miller said. “Our shared hope was that this work, in the long run, can serve as a catalyst to strengthen on-the-job learning for science teachers and give them the support they need to improve student outcomes.”
