EDC's new course, "Developing Mathematical Practices for Geometry, Algebra II, and Beyond: Grades 10–12," is being delivered statewide in partnership with the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. The course was piloted at EDC Headquarters in Waltham on June 25–28 with 50 Massachusetts teachers from high-need districts, with follow-up sessions in October and November 2012.
The focus of the course is to help teachers effectively implement the Standards for Mathematical Practice in the Common Core State Standards and the Massachusetts Curriculum Framework for high school mathematics. Teachers are eligible to earn three graduate credits through EDC partnerships with local universities, as well as 67.5 Professional Development Points.
To support teachers from high need districts across the state, EDC will train and certify a cohort of course facilitators to lead the course at the state’s six regional District and School Assistance Centers. The development team includes Al Cuoco, Bryan Wunar, Elena Kaczorowski, Courtney Arthur, Bowen Kerins, Kevin Waterman, Melody Hachey, Kathy Foulser, and Chris Ricard.
