Jackie DeLisi's research provides new insights into effective strategies to improve science teaching and learning both in formal and informal STEM education environments. Her primary research interests include understanding the intersections between school organizations, pedagogy and students’ adoption of scientific and engineering practices. Her work also focuses on instrument development, including determining psychometric properties, to measure school, teacher, and student outcomes.

DeLisi is co-Principal Investigator of the NSF-funded Science Fairs Under the 'Scope, a national research study of the implementation, outcomes, and cost of middle-school science fairs. She also leads several evaluation projects, including evaluation of the NASA-funded collaboration with the Gulf of Maine Research Institute (GMRI), which is creating engaging data visualizations using NASA data to teach students how to reason with large data sets and develop their climate literacy. DeLisi also leads the evaluation of Boston College’s Seeding the Future project, which infuses STEM content into BC’s College Bound program.

DeLisi was a lead developer of the National Science Foundation (NSF)-funded Inquiring into Science Instruction Observation Protocol (ISIOP) and collaborates with colleagues on the development of the Technology Observation Protocol (TOP Science). She also led EDC’s collaboration with Abt Associates on the joint evaluation of NASA’s Summer of Innovation and Explorer Schools projects.

DeLisi is a co-author of the report Visualizing Oceans of Data: Educational Interface Design and has presented findings from her work at the Annual Conference of the National Association of Research in Science Teaching. She collaborates with program developers and researchers at a variety of institutions including Boston College, Mass Bay Community College, GMRI, Purdue University, the American Museum of Natural History, the Cary Institute of Ecosystem Studies, and Rutgers University.

Before joining EDC, DeLisi was a research consultant for TERC. She began her career as a middle school science teacher in the Denver Public Schools.

DeLisi earned a BA in Chemistry from New York University, an MA in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Colorado at Denver, and an EdD in Administration, Training, and Policy Studies from Boston University.
