In this research brief, the authors describe the key concepts and skills involved in meeting the standards within the Counting and Cardinality domain of the Common Core State Standards, and they provide excerpts from learning trajectories that illustrate how these concepts and skills develop over time and with experience. The brief contains descriptions of some of the typical errors that young children display when learning about counting and cardinality, a list of key vocabulary terms, a chart of sample learning trajectories, and a list of helpful resources.
