Why a Digital Teacher Guide?

This white paper, one in a series of three, focuses on EDC's National Science Foundation (NSF)-funded Electronic Teacher Guide (eTG) project–an initiative to redesign a print teacher guide for the genetics unit of EDC's Foundation Science: Biology high school curriculum and to research its use by teachers. The authors discuss current uses of technology in the classroom, the role of print teacher guides that accompany innovative curriculum, and the potential that a digital guide has to enhance support for teachers' implementation of curricula. A detailed description of the components of the eTG is provided, as well as findings from two studies in which the eTG was tested with teachers. The two other papers in the series include:
