Published by Redleaf Press, EDC’s three-volume Young Scientist Series helps teachers foster young children’s development of key science inquiry, language and literacy, and mathematics skills through a blend of play, science inquiry, and productive talk. The units—Building Structures with Young Children, Exploring Water with Young Children, and Discovering Nature with Young Children—use simple and low-cost materials, introduce children to critical thinking skills such as questioning, investigating, discussing, and formulating theories, and feature Teacher Guides with videos that show the curriculum in action. The curriculum is endorsed by the National Science Teachers Association (NSTA) and is the only preschool curriculum of relevance identified in The National Academy of Engineering and National Research Council report, Engineering in K-12 Education: Understanding the Status and Improving the Prospects (Appendix C: Curriculum Projects, Detailed Analyses; C-351 to C-362).
