Breaking Down Silos, Joining Forces in Education

Full Description:

This article, published in Language Magazine, describes the availability of programs to help young English learners become proficient in both the English language and in the content of all of their courses. Two such resources—the newly released English Learner Took Kit developed by the U.S.  Department of Education Office of English Language Acquisition and the RTI-Based Specific Learning Disabilities Identification Toolkit developed by the National Center for Learning Disabilities (NSLD)—are both extensive resources that, unfortunately, lack critical information. The authors look closely at these resources and discuss some suggested improvements to them so that the population of young English learners in the United States can be better supported.
