Jessica Juliuson (at left) led a weeklong professional development workshop for the Powered by Ford (PbF) STEM Academies profiled in The Detroit News and Forbes magazine. During the workshop, Juliuson engaged teachers from five Detroit PbF STEM Academies and business partners from Ford Motor Company in exploring Problem-Based Case Learning (PBCL). Juliuson, the professional development manager for all of the PbF STEM Academies (read her essay in the 2016 EDC publication, In Support of Educators: Strategies That Work), is supporting employer partners and teachers in collaborating on instruction and working with cohorts of academies to identify their needs and develop academy strategic plans. For 15 years, EDC has partnered with Ford Motor Company Fund to design and implement the Ford Next Generation Learning (NGL) initiative. EDC staff serve on the Ford NGL National Team and Leadership Council and build capacity to sustain and scale systemic transformation. Earlier in our collaboration with Ford, EDC developed the Ford PAS curriculum, as well as designing and delivering a comprehensive approach to providing ongoing, job-embedded professional development for teachers.
